SDG Challenge #6 - Clean Water and Sanitation

This month’s SDG challenge is about Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation. This is a call to a human fight around the world which aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all!

To join, take one or more of these 4 challenges, suggested by Development Perspectives, to make your own contribution to the world:

    • Challenge #1 – Get Informed:
We are asking you to read up about Goal #6 and to learn about the efforts around the world to achieve ‘Clean Water and Sanitation’. You can begin this joy of learning by watching the videos in the ‘Understand’ section of this info pack.
    • Challenge #2 – Be Political:
Write to Minister Darragh O’Brien, who is the head of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Ask him what the plans for adequate water treatment in areas across Ireland are. Contact information: Letters can be sent to: Minister’s Office/Office of the Minister of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Custom House, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1 DO1 W6XO.
    • Challenge #3 – Educate:
This challenge invites you to discuss Clean Water and Sanitation with your friends, family and colleagues. It can be an informal chat or a more structured workshop to discuss issues. Be sure to use #SDGchallenge to share any activities.
    • Challenge #4 – #WaterMatters:
For this month’s challenge, we invite you to engage with a video created by An Fóram Uisce | The Water Forum – a story of how water is used in the home along with suggestions for the small steps that can be taken to reduce our individual impact on very precious water resources. Step 1: Watch and enjoy the video: check it here. Step 2: Pick one (or more) of the actions mentioned in the video and try to implement them. Step 3: Share what you did and how you got on, on social media and with and the people around you – and of course also share if you have additional ideas or experience how water can be protected in our everyday life! For sharing, make sure to use #WaterMatters #SDG6 #CleanWater @AnForamUisce

More about the SDG Challenge:

In September 2015, world leaders from 193 countries came together to adopt the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs mean we as individuals can take action every month to raise awareness and to help achieve a sustainable future by 2030. Check this video out, if you would like to know more about what is the SDG challenge.

This initiative is supported by Development Perspectives as part of a wider project called Saolta. Anne Hannan, Tutor at Warrenmount Community Education Centre has been enthusiastically running this project since the start, arranging informative sessions and meetings to spread SDG Challenge information for other Tutors/Staff in the Community Education Centre.

Let’s embrace this cause?

We can all help to make a difference and raise awareness of the SDGs! Let’s embrace this cause for a better world in the future?
