Volunteers are an important part of the Centre and your time and commitment are very much appreciated.
The following defined roles are available during each term at the Centre. Volunteers are asked to complete an application form, and attend an informal interview. Training will be given at the start of term and ongoing support is provided. Below you will find an outline of the various volunteer roles.
Each week the Centre holds a literacy session for people who wish to improve their reading and writing skills. Working one to one, or in a small group, the learners work with a tutor in order to improve in these areas. The learners are a mix of Irish people and English language learners. Literacy tutors must hold an appropriate volunteer literacy tutor qualification.
Twice a week during term a group of English language learners from a wide variety of countries attend the centre for language conversation class. We require volunteers to assist the learner to help them to improve their pronunciation skills along with fluency.
Each week during term a group of learners attend the centre for a basic level IT class. This is an open learning workshop style class. We require volunteers with good IT skills to work with the learners to help them to use an online system developed by NALA called Learn with NALA. The learners develop their IT skills along with reading, writing and comprehension.
Please use the contact form if you are interested in finding out more and applying to be a volunteer. We will let you know when the next induction / information day is scheduled.
