Gardening Tips for August

Gardening Tips For August

By Mary Darcy, Gardening Tutor.

Pest and Diseases:

  • Warm, dry weather encourages diseases such as mildew.  Mildew is a white powdery coating covering the stems and leaves.
  • Flowers most prone to mildew are Roses.  Fungicidal sprays can be used, but by ensuring that the plants do not come under any stress- for example lack of watering – the plants will stand up to any attacks much better.
  • Check your plants for aphids.  They can be kept under control by squashing them by hand.
  • If your infestation is very bad there are suitable pesticides available or try the organic option of “Garlic Wonder”
