Our Book Club has just finished reading and discussing “Echoland” by Joe Joyce.
Echoland is a spy thriller set in Dublin during World War Two. When it appears that Germany is winning the war, Germany’s next move is to target Britain and Ireland. The views on the war are divided in neutral Dublin. A young lieutenant is drafted into the army’s intelligence division, and gets assigned to investigate a suspected German spy.
Here are some of our students thoughts on the book;
“I very much enjoyed the descriptions of freewheeling around Dublin in days of no traffic!” – Margaret
“Shocking how all these supposedly serious conversations on top secret topics happened in the pub” – Peggy
“Very believable description of uncle Timmy, the cute/crooked T.D. , who is now a figure consigned to history…hopefully!” – Anne
“The German and the British war is not as important to the storyline as the personal lives of the cast (so to speak)” – Paul
